This is a simple way to summarize the aims of the sono-phenomenology presented in this book. It comes to terms with the fact that phenomenology has not paid enough attention to sounds.

In dialogue with sound studies, it notes how sounds primarily establish sound environments and describes their topology. It asks what the ambient nature of these environments consists in and to what extent the experience of them is immersive. The book also includes an extensive phenomenological account of the experience of listening to music in headphones.
